Adventure
programs

These programs are designed to give dogs skills above and beyond obedience, and they can enhance their daily lives by giving them a purpose.

Exclusive to Gold and Platinum members

The courses offered below are an exclusive offering to Gold and Platinum members of our Academy. We refer to these courses as Adventure Programs, and these are offered after a dog has completed the minimum training equivalent of our 8-week puppy camp or 8-week boot camp. We require this level of training because dogs will need an off-leash recall, obedience under distraction(s), drop-it, and many other exercises learned in the 8-week camp.

Above and beyond
obedience

These programs are designed to give dogs skills above and beyond obedience, and they can enhance their daily lives by giving them a purpose. Further, it gives owners/handlers and their dog an outlet to work together, engage activities/exercises challenging the mind and body, and further enhances what they’ve learned during boot camp.

Canine Couch to 5K

The goal of our Couch to 5K program is for you to be able to include your dog in specific activities that you can enjoy together, while also helping to meet your dog’s fitness needs. This includes having your dog learn to heel while going for a jog with you, and/or learning to jog next to a bike. These activities are great ways to take your dog with you while going jogging or biking, as well as keeping them active to meet their exercise needs. This is a fast-paced physical conditioning program and can teach the dog to run for a 5K, so if you are looking to have your dog build up their endurance, get fit and they enjoy running and fast paced activities, this is the adventure program for you.

Scent Work

The sport of Scent Work is based on the work of professional detection dogs (such as drug dogs), employed by humans to detect a wide variety of scents and substances. This course teaches dogs to search for cotton swabs saturated with the essential oils of Birch, Anise, Clove, and Cypress. The cotton swabs are hidden out of sight in a pre-determined search area, and the dog has to find them. Teamwork is necessary: when the dog finds the scent, he has to communicate the find to the handler, and these cues or indication is a key component to the training. Neither the dog nor handler knows where the target odor is hidden. The handler has to rely on the dog, and follow the dog’s nose to success.

Canine Good Citizen

The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) is a 10-skill test that teaches good manners to dogs and responsible dog ownership to their owners. This course will focus on these 10-skills, and dogs will practice and strengthen proper responses or control to better prepare them for the final test. This two week intensive course will conclude with owner(s) going through the CGC evaluation. CGC is open to all dogs–purebred and mixed breed. There are no age minimums or limits for participating in the Canine Good Citizen program. If you have goals of doing therapy dog work with your dog, this course will introduce your dog to many of the same requirements therapy dog organizations have for advancement or certification.

Fetchworx

This course will introduce dogs to the concept of fetch, the interactive game between dog and human. A solid foundation in the game of fetch helps overcome some of the hurdles often encountered like playing keep away, becoming possessive, drive building, focus/concentration on the game, drop-it, and more. This course will give owner(s) a productive way to exercise their dog, and can also be the steppingstone for the game of search (scent discrimination for finding items).
